Lisbon Strategy "Europe's official response to globalisation is today embodied in the “Lisbon strategy”. This initiative was launched in March 2000, at the height of the Internet boom and in response to the risk of Europe falling behind in relation to America's economic performance. Its aim was to make Europe “the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-driven economy in the world by 2010”. After several years of immobility and an initial clear-sighted assessment established by the 2004 Kok report, the Lisbon strategy was relaunched in March 2005 and refocused on “growth and jobs”. Today it has become the central and consensual strategy of the EU-27 in economic, social and environmental matters, the “European response to globalisation”. The European Council of 13-14 March 2008 has just adopted the latest cycle of the Lisbon strategy for the 2008-2010 period, a continuation of the previous cycle.".
